Eat Your Veggies
Keto, Gluten-Free, Atkins, Wahls Protocol, vegetarian, vegan, no dairy, no sugar, etc. Diet, diet, diet. I'm pretty sure we all struggle with diets and wanting to eat healthier. There's a million diets and lifestyles out there, and it can be hard to sift through them all and find the best one for you. No two people are the same when it comes to body weight, metabolism, hormones, and how their body reacts to food. There are a lot of components that go into why someone weighs the number they are, how they loose weight, and how a diet affects their body.
In the MS world, everyone wants to talk about diets. How "this diet is the best". How "that diet is the best". You "should be eating these kinds of foods". "If you eat these foods, you'll be cured and you won't have MS anymore". It's all noise to me. If you eat certain foods and you feel great, fantastic! Keep it up! I'm genuinely happy for you. Just don't shame others if they're not following the same dietary plans you are. You have to remember that maybe those foods are not available where they live, or they're allergic to certain foods, or that these diets can be costly and they don't have the financial mean to afford it. Or, some people just don't want to be told what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. Maybe they want to keep eating the way they're eating. Whatever the reason it, it's they're choice.
Personally, I've been going through some dietary changes myself. I was a vegetarian for 7 years, then went back to eating meat, and now I've cut out red meat, pork, milk, and some other dairy products. I've had to make changes due to health issues. For others, I would suggest just using good sound judgment. Eat fruits and vegetables, keep your sugar and fat intake low, drink water, and eat in moderation. If you want to treat yourself, treat yourself!
We need to stop comparing ourselves to one another. Just like any drug, what works for one person, may not work for the next. Try different options out. But lets stop comparing each other to one another.
I'm not a fan when someone is preachy. Don't shove something down my throat. If something works for you and you want to share it with me, great! But don't sit there and tell me that this is the ONLY thing that works and that I HAVE to try in order to see results. Let me decide if I want to try something. Let me choose after doing my own research and forming my own opinion.
If you want to eat your veggies, eat your veggies. If you want cake, let there be cake!
